Would I go back in time and change my experience of mental illness if I could? Never.
"This photo accompanied an article I wrote for The Christchurch Press, which was published on October 17th 2009. It hadn't been long since I'd been through a horrific period of antenatal and postnatal depression following the birth of my son, and unexpectedly it was electro-convulsive therapy (as barbaric as it sounds) that was the turning point that saw me begin to break free from the control of such a severe mental illness. I would never wish any of what I experienced on any person, let alone any mother, but there's no denying the fact that the lessons and wisdom I've gained on this journey have absolutely made me who I am today, and I wouldn't change that for anything."
